Following the arrest of Tuğba Kahraman on 3 February 2026, along with around 100 other people, the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office issued a confidentiality order imposing a 24-hour restriction on visits by lawyers. Tuğba Kahraman, who had been arrested in Ankara, was transferred to Istanbul without being able to meet her Ankara-based lawyers due to this order. At the same time, the lawyers were unable to ascertain the reason for her detention.
Tuğba Kahraman was arrested on 25 June 2026 on charges of "being a member of an illegal organisation" and "making propaganda for an illegal organisation". She was released at the first hearing on 29 September 2026, after spending three months in pre-trial detention.
On 1 October 2026, Tuğba Kahraman was placed under house arrest as part of another criminal case brought against her by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office, Terrorism Crimes Investigation Bureau, under file number 2026/8857. She had already been arrested in connection with these proceedings on 3 February 2026, along with around 100 other people, including co-chairs of political parties, numerous trade union representatives, lawyers and journalists.
