Nawedullah Fetrat is an Afghan teacher and public critic from Herat. He has been involved in social and civic activities and has used social media to express critical views on Afghanistan’s political and social situation and Taliban policies. In a video published shortly before his detention, he criticized the Taliban’s use of religion in political and ethnic matters, called for greater separation between religion and politics, and urged religious scholars to speak out about the situation in Afghanistan.
