Ali Wazir, a leading Pakistani politician and human rights activist, is the co-founder of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM). His family consistently resisted the Talibanization of Pakistan's northwestern tribal areas and was a frequent target of militant violence. Wazir has lost 17 close family members—including his father, brothers, uncles, and cousins—in targeted militant attacks. Wazir's advocacy has focused primarily on holding the state accountable, ending extrajudicial killings, and seeking justice for victims of enforced disappearances in Pakistan's Pashtun border regions. Since 2020, he has faced multiple charges, including sedition, terrorism, and cybercrime. In a significant legal development, the Sindh High Court ruled that his prolonged detention was unlawful and unconstitutional, leading to his temporary release from Sukkur Central Prison.
