On 4 December 2024, the Egyptian Supreme State Security Prosecution referred Ahmed Nazir El-Helw , a cassation lawyer and human rights defender — to criminal trial in Case No. 1940 of 2022 (State Security). The prosecution charged him with joining a terrorist group with knowledge of its objectives, spreading false information and data on social media, inciting protests, misusing social media platforms, and financing a terrorist group.
