Rudhra was taken to the Special Cell, New Friends Colony, where he was interrogated by 3 officers claiming to be from the Intelligence Department. Then he was stripped naked, blindfolded and beaten by a rubber wire, and then the police strangled him using the rubber wire. He was being coerced to give a false testimony He was then taken before 4 police officers who stripped him naked and asked him to entertain them, then the police brought Gaurav into the room and forced Rudhra and Gaurav to touch each other's private parts. Rudra recounts, “I was hit on the head with a ‘patta’(also dupatta). They had tied my eyes with a patta and tried to choke me using that same dupatta”. He continued to say “I was stripped naked, beaten on my chest, back and private parts with their foot repeatedly. They asked me to wear clothes, and took me to a room wherein the AC was on maximum to an extent that my body was getting numb.” It was done as a method of coercing them into “cooperating” with them to give false statements. He was also made to strip naked again, asked to take his own private part in his own mouth and they also forced his friend (Gaurav) to strip naked in front of him. They made him sit naked on Rudra’s head and made them indulge in several obscene acts, while the police kept laughing and taking pictures and videos of them. They kept threatening him with encounters in a forest along with calling him an ‘urban naxal’ and also threatened with electrocution if not agreed to say what they wanted to hear.
After the abduction of the activist, an Habeous Corpus petition has been filed before the High Court of Delhi. The Court has ordered a detailed enquiry into the torture and illegal detention. The court is awaiting reports from the Concerned Police.
