Advocate Ehsan Ali is a lawyer, lifelong human rights activist, and Chairman of the Awami Action Committee (AAC) in Gilgit-Baltistan. For over a decade, he has advocated for democratic rights, the maintenance of subsidies on essential goods such as wheat flour, and the provision of basic health and education facilities for the people of the region. He has also resisted the environmental destruction inflicted on the territory.

Several reports say that Ehsan Ali was kept in difficult prison conditions, his health got worse in custody, and there were concerns that he did not receive proper medical care.

Recent case update / evolution

Advocate Ehsan Ali was charged under the Anti-Terrorism Act along with Sections 153-A and 506 of the Pakistan Penal Code. He was held in police custody and later transferred to judicial custody. The Gilgit-Baltistan Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) released him on bail on 11 June.
