Andrei worked as a machine operator at Grodno Azot and was a leader of the primary trade union organisation of the Belarusian Independent Trade Union of Grodno Azot.

According to the Prosecutor's Office, the reason for bringing criminal proceedings against the trade union leader was his conversation with a journalist from Belsat TV, during which he ""passed on some information"" to her.
