Hiba Abu Taha is a Palestinian-Jordanian investigative journalist and blogger who uses her Facebook page to express her critical opinions about government policies. She has been arrested repeatedly. On 03 March 2026, the authorities arrested Hiba Abu Taha due to a Facebook post. On 19 March 2026, the Amman Criminal Court sentenced her to two years in prison after convicting her of publishing material that could incite sedition, discord, or threaten social peace, according to Article 17 of the Cybercrime Law. Her trial lacked the minimum international standards for a fair trial and due process, as she was denied the right to a defence after her lawyer was prevented from presenting his arguments.

In May 2024, she was arbitrarily arrested following a complaint filed by the Amman Public Prosecutor in the name of “public law.” The case stems from a report by Jordan’s Media Commission, the government agency responsible for enforcing press laws and regulations, regarding Abu Taha’s April 2024 article published on the Lebanese Annasher website titled “Partners in Genocide… Jordanian Capital Involved in Genocide in the Gaza Strip.” The article alleges that Jordan allows regional companies to ship goods to Israel via a land bridge. This is not the first time that Hiba Abu Taha has been subjected to persecution by the Jordanian authorities for expressing her opinion as a journalist or an activist. Abu Taha was previously arrested in August 2023 and sentenced to three months in prison on account of on charges of defaming an official body after she wrote a post on social media, criticizing Jordanian King Abdallah II, and accusing him of normalization with Israel. In March 2020, she was reportedly arrested on charges of slander and undermining the government, because of her statements in a previous interview with The Associated Press during a protest against the hike in gas and fuel prices in Jordan in 2012.
