The First Circuit of Terrorism Felonies, acting as the Emergency State Security Court based at Badr Criminal Court, under the presidency of Judge Mohamed Saied El Sherbiny, issued a verdict on 5 March 2023, in case number 1552/2018 State Security Supreme, commonly known in the media as the Egyptian Coordination for Rights and Freedoms case, sentencing her to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment.

Allegations / reports of ill-treatment
According to her lawyer, Ms. Abdelmonem had two heart attacks on 23 and 30 August 2025, yet neither he nor her family were informed of her deteriorating health at the time, only learning of her condition during a subsequent visit on 6 September 2025. suffers from chronic deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolisms, hypertension, and severe joint inflammation. In addition, during her detention, she previously experienced angina, complete failure of the left kidney, and reflux in the right kidney.
Recent case update / evolution
On 31 October 2023, Hoda Abdel Moneim was due to be released after completing her full prison sentence, before the presidential ratification of the verdict had even been issued, making the sentence final. However, instead of being released, she was subjected to “recycling” and brought before the Supreme State Security Prosecution, which investigated her in Case No. 730 of 2020 on the same charges for which she had already been tried and convicted.
She remained in pretrial detention in this case for more than a year, before being recycled for a second time. On 18 November 2024, the Supreme State Security Prosecution questioned her—once and for the last time—in Case No. 800 of 2019, a case that emerged while she was already in custody under the authority of the Ministry of Interior. Less than a month after the interrogation, she was referred to trial in this case on charges of “joining and financing a terrorist organization” and criminal conspiracy to commit a “terrorist” offense, without being confronted with any evidence or witnesses.
