HRD's bio and work

Mushfig Jabbarov is an Azerbaijani journalist whose work combines reporting, video editing and multimedia production. At Toplum TV, he contributed to coverage of social issues and the everyday difficulties faced by citizens. His professional experience also includes work with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty.

Jabbarov was arrested on 6 March 2024 during a police raid on Toplum TV’s offices and prosecuted alongside the outlet’s journalists and associated civil society activists in the “Toplum TV case”. On 27 July 2026, the Baku Grave Crimes Court sentenced him to 13 years’ imprisonment and imposed a two-and-a-half-year ban on holding certain positions.

He was convicted on multiple criminal charges, including money laundering, tax evasion, and other alleged financial and economic offences. He and his co-defendants have consistently rejected all charges, maintaining that the criminal proceedings against them are politically motivated and linked to their legitimate professional activities in the media. International organisations recognise him as a political prisoner.
